Working out how to apply for the France Eiffel Scholarship starts with one important distinction: you apply through a French university or higher education institution, not directly to Campus France. Your first job is to find a suitable course and follow that institution’s nomination procedure. Sending documents straight to Campus France will not create an eligible application.

The France Excellence Eiffel Scholarship 2027 supports international candidates pursuing eligible master’s-level and doctoral studies. This guide explains the application route, documents and deadlines, with practical advice on approaching a university. Start with the official student guidance and use the steps below to organise your application.

Still checking whether Eiffel is right for you? Read our Eiffel Scholarship 2027 in France overview for funding, eligibility and university deadlines before following this application guide. You can also explore other scholarships in France.

1. Understand the Eiffel Scholarship Application Route

Eiffel involves two separate decisions. A French institution first decides whether to support your candidacy; the national scholarship selection follows. University nomination is not an award.

The 2027 official call covers seven fields: biology and health; ecological transition; mathematics and digital sciences; engineering sciences; history, French language and civilisation; law and political science; and economics and management. A course must meet the programme’s eligibility conditions, not simply have a related title.

Applications opened on 2 October 2026, according to the official 2027 call. Institutions must submit nominations by 6 January 2027, with results expected during the week of 12 April 2027. Students must meet their university’s earlier deadline.

Deadline clarification: Campus France’s English announcement contains both 6 and 8 January. The updated French calendar confirms 6 January 2027. Avoid using an old article’s January date as your personal submission deadline.

2. Check Whether You Are Eligible

Check nationality, age, current study location and course eligibility before preparing a long application. The official nationality conditions exclude French nationals, including dual nationals who hold French citizenship.

For 2027, the University of Rennes eligibility guidance lists a maximum age of 29 for master’s applicants and 35 for doctoral applicants, with birth dates after 31 March 1997 and 31 March 1991, respectively. Verify the age cutoff with your nominating institution.

Master’s applicants already studying in France are not eligible. Doctoral candidates already in France may qualify under the applicable conditions, although candidates studying abroad receive priority. Previous Eiffel applications, earlier awards and overlapping scholarships can also affect eligibility: disclose them to the university.

Check the teaching language and admission requirements separately. Do not assume that Eiffel removes a university’s language-test requirement or guarantees admission.

Our English proficiency certificate guide explains the document, but only your intended university can confirm whether it accepts one.

3. Understand the Funding Before You Commit

The Campus France benefits page lists a €1,200 monthly allowance for master’s students, alongside travel, insurance, accommodation-search assistance and other services. Master’s-level funding can last up to 12 months for M2, 24 months for M1 or 36 months for an engineering degree.

Doctoral allowance needs confirmation: Campus France’s student page lists €2,100 per month, while its implementation guidance lists €2,000. These official pages differ. Confirm the applicable amount in writing with your university before planning your budget.

Eiffel does not generally pay programme tuition fees. Eligible French-government scholars preparing national degrees or accredited engineering qualifications at qualifying public institutions can receive a registration-fee exemption. This is not a promise that every private-school charge or programme cost is covered. Housing assistance does not mean free accommodation.

Doctoral funding arrangements depend on the research stage and supervision structure. The 2027 doctoral guidance distinguishes shorter joint-supervision stays from the 36-month route. Your doctoral school can explain which arrangement fits your project.

4. Prepare Your Documents and Career Plan

Use your university’s checklist rather than a generic scholarship checklist. The Rennes document requirements provide a useful starting point: identity document, CV, diplomas, academic ranking where available, transcripts, current enrolment evidence where relevant, and a career plan. Research applicants also need thesis-project material.

Prepare clear, consistently named files. Check whether translations, referee letters, language evidence or supervisor approval are required, and whether references must arrive separately.

Our guide to writing a professional CV can help you organise your education and relevant experience without turning the document into a long biography.

Make the career plan specific

Explain what you have studied, what you now need to learn and why this particular programme is the logical next step. Connect a real project, research question or professional problem to the course content. Describe how you intend to use that training afterwards.

For example, a water-management applicant could connect a previous project on irrigation losses to a relevant research group and a defined career objective. That is more informative than praising France in general. This is writing advice, not an official scoring formula.

State achievements accurately. Include a documented class rank when available; do not invent one or present an estimated grade conversion as official.

5. How to Apply for the France Eiffel Scholarship: Step by Step

Step 1: Choose the exact programme

Identify a degree that fits your academic background and career plan. Record its full name, teaching language and admission requirements. Keep a short comparison sheet rather than sending the same unfocused message everywhere. Our master’s scholarships and PhD scholarships pages can help you compare alternatives.

Step 2: Read the university’s current Eiffel instructions

Find its 2027 call and note the student deadline, submission method and contact office. Save a copy of the instructions. The application route is institution-specific: at the University of Toulouse, master’s candidates use a pre-application form without needing to contact the programme coordinator beforehand. Doctoral candidates must first secure a prospective supervisor’s support.

Step 3: Clarify nomination and admission requirements

Ask whether the university requires a separate admission application, a scholarship pre-application or both. An email enquiry is not an application. An admission offer is not an Eiffel nomination. Record the deadline for each required process so one does not get overlooked while you work on the other.

Step 4: Submit a tailored, complete file

Use the institution’s own portal or specified email address. Check the programme title, spelling of your name, document language, page limits and attachments. Keep proof of submission. Open the uploaded files once more to make sure they are readable and belong to the correct application.

Step 5: Confirm one nominating institution

You may research different universities, but you must not be nominated by more than one institution in the same Eiffel selection round. Confirm who is submitting your file and promptly disclose any change. Ask the university, not an unofficial intermediary, what still needs completing.

Step 6: Complete the final nomination file

If the university supports you, respond to its requests for corrections and signed documents. Campus France’s 2027 application guidance includes a candidate commitment form. The institution submits the national application; students do not submit that final file themselves.

Step 7: Follow the result and remaining formalities

Keep checking the email address used in your application. After an award, follow the instructions for enrolment and arrival. Confirm any separate admission, Études en France or visa procedures with the university and relevant official services; do not assume the scholarship application replaces them.

Subject: Eiffel Scholarship 2027 enquiry — [Programme name]

Dear International Relations Team,

I am a [degree] graduate from [university, country] interested in your [programme] for the 2027 intake. My work on [specific project or research topic] relates to the programme’s focus on [relevant area].

Could you confirm whether this programme accepts Eiffel nominations, the internal deadline, and whether I should submit a separate admission application? I have attached my CV for context, where permitted by your instructions.

Kind regards,

[Full name]

6. Check University Deadlines and Review Your Application

These published dates show why students should not wait for the national January deadline:

University of Rennes: 6 November 2026; PhD pre-applications close at 12 noon, Paris time.

University of Toulouse — master’s: 15 November 2026.

University of Toulouse — PhD: 29 November 2026.

Institutional submission to Campus France: 6 January 2027.

These are examples, not a universal university deadline. Recheck the relevant official page before submitting, including any time-of-day requirement. A different institution in the same city may have a different procedure.

Before you finish, check that your course is eligible, every required document is present, the career plan names the correct programme, and only one institution will nominate you. Resolve language and fee questions rather than assuming an exemption. Keep the final submitted version and acknowledgement together.

For wider preparation, use our scholarship application guidelines. Your next practical step is simple: identify the exact university procedure and its student deadline, then work backwards from that date.

Information checked on 15 October 2026. University procedures and official notices take precedence. Reconfirm dates, funding and eligibility before applying.

Quick answers

Frequently asked questions

Can I apply directly to Campus France?+

No. A French higher education institution must submit the Eiffel nomination. Follow the university’s own student-facing application procedure, as explained in the official application guidance.

Can international students worldwide apply for the Eiffel Scholarship?+

International candidates can be considered under the foreign-nationality rules, provided they meet all other requirements. There is no automatic nomination or award based on nationality. Candidates who also hold French citizenship are excluded by the nationality conditions.

Is IELTS compulsory for the Eiffel Scholarship?+

There is no universal IELTS exemption under Eiffel. Check with your chosen programme which language evidence it requires and whether an alternative certificate is acceptable.

Do I need an admission offer before requesting nomination?+

Follow the university’s instructions. Some institutions begin with a scholarship pre-application; admission and Eiffel selection are distinct processes. Ask which applications you must complete and when.

Can two universities nominate me?+

No. Only one institution may nominate you in the same selection round. The Toulouse application rules explicitly state this restriction.

Is Eiffel completely tuition-free?+

Not in every case. Eiffel does not generally cover programme fees; an exemption may apply to eligible degrees at qualifying public institutions. Confirm the actual charges using the official funding guidance and your university’s fee policy.

When will the Eiffel Scholarship 2027 results be announced?+

The official 2027 calendar says candidates and institutions will be notified by email during the week of 12 April 2027. Follow official communications for any update.
